2) Skin infections: Skin infections can range from folliculitis (infections of the hair follicles), pyoderma, erysipelas, cellulitis (a deep infection of the skin cells, producing red, swollen skin which is hot to the touch), and impetigo (a vesicular, blistered, eruption, most common in children, that becomes crusty and flaky and is frequently found around the mouth). These skin infections can also be caused by Staphylococcus aureusTherefore, treatment for these infections consists of a penicillinase resistant penicillin like dicloxacillin, which covers both group A beta-hemolytic streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus. Â is a streptococcal infection of the superficial skin, the dermis only. It has a specific appearance: a raised, bright red rash with a sharp border that advances from the initial site of infection. Unlike cellulitis, erysipelas is only rarely caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
